New Hope for Those Suffering from Chemo Brain or Cognitive Impairment Zengar Institute, Inc. today announced the results of a new peer-reviewed study measuring the effects of NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback on patients suffering post-cancer cognitive impairment (PCCI) or “chemo-brain”. The research, conducted by the Applied Brain Research Foundation of Ohio, reported a 91% success rate for PCCI patients using NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback’s brain training system. 21 of the 23 participants in the study reported a complete reversal of the cognitive impairment or “mental fog” commonly associated with chemotherapy treatment.
The results of the study were published online April 12, 2013 in Integrative Cancer Therapies, a professional research journal. “Almost everyone improved and returned to normal levels. That was surprising and gratifying”, research director Jean Alvarez told The Cleveland Plain Dealer earlier this week. The neurofeedback system’s designer, Zengar Institute, Inc. released a statement through Operations Director, Samantha Diavatis, “The results are exciting, but behind the numbers is the fact that our system provided real relief for people struggling with cognitive impairment.”
As many as 70% of patients who undergo treatment for cancer experience diminished cognitive function side effects, including impaired memory, loss of verbal fluidity, or increased anxiety or depression. While the cause of PCCI is largely unknown, chemo brain has become a subject of growing interest within the medical community.
The NeurOptimal® neurofeedback (aks EEG biofeedback) system used in the study was not altered or customized to treat chemo brain specifically, nor does the training software target specific neural areas to ‘fix’ cognitive performance problems. Instead, the unique NeurOptimal® program prompts the brain’s own natural resources to self-correct any impairment, regardless of cause. As a result, NeurOptimal® neurofeedback can be effective across a broad range of conditions and complaints beyond chemo brain. The 23 study participants – women aged 43 to 70 who had all undergone previous treatment for breast cancer – received biofeedback/neurofeedback sessions twice a week for 10 weeks. Changes in sleep quality, cognitive function and energy levels were monitored and recorded. At the end of the study, test results showed 21 of the 23 participants experienced a reversal of their cognitive impairment. Zengar Institute, Inc. Director Samantha Diavatis added: “The fact that Dr. Alvarez’s results were run through a rigorous peer-review system is further proof that NeurOptimal® is a superior neurofeedback system.”
That “Aha” Moment
“Hi, I just wanted to tell you how amazing I think the [NeurOptimal®] system is. I got into it because I am fascinated by the brain and was even interested in becoming a neuroscientist. But going back to school did not look so appealing. Then I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile and she told me she was a trainer in neurofeed back and introduced me to your system. I became a trainer and bought my own personal system. I first learned to meditate when I was 15 back in ’71 and I love to meditate. I was really interested in the neuro- feedback as a way to increase the effectiveness of the meditation. Just last fall I spent 10 days at a silent Vipassana retreat learning to meditate according to the teachings of Buddha. It was different than the Transcendental Meditation I first learned and the Kriya Meditation I had been practicing for the last 10 years. In any case I found the Vipassana technique much more effective as a tool to focus the mind. My passion in life is self-awareness, self-realization, or whatever you prefer to call it. I found this last meditation technique to be profound in it’s ability to help me see the layers of my being and my mind. Lately, the neuro-feedback sessions have been stimulating aha moments after every session in the following meditation and it has been so awesome. I know that these are wondrous times that we live in, and this year seems to be catapulting my awareness into the stratosphere. So to have the combination of the sessions helping me align my brain and then have the meditation illuminate the thought and behavior patterns is truly a gift. thank you so very much.” – Faith Bushby from Langley, WA
BACK FROM THE BRINK OF TBI
Following a terrible accident, a mother uses neurofeedback brain training on her comatose son to help him recover from TBI (Tramatic Brain Injury). Attending doctors and nurses are amazed at how rapidly her son recovers.
When You Have All the Pieces, But They Don´t Fit Together
For the past few months, I have been wrestling with a complicated problem at work. I knew the answer was close, but I couldn't seem to clear my mind enough to reach the answer. After a few sessions of NeurOptimal neurofeedback, the answer came to me. It was almost creepy how it happened. I have to believe that my sessions with this program contributed to this breakthrough!
It doesn't hurt that the music I listened to during the sessions was absolutely delightful. S.B. from Roanoke, VA
Freed From Psychotropic Drugs
“After almost 23 years of being “hostage” to psychotropic [anti-depressants] drugs, I am, as of July 2008 completely drug free!” M.W. from Fairfax, VA
A Marriage and Family Therapist´s Usage of NeurOptimal® My name is Diana Fischer. I have had tremendous success using NeurOptimal Neurofeedback Systems both personally and professionally. I began using it personally in my sixties to help me with medical issues related to aging and have received multiple benefits as a result. I found that it helps with focus and concentration, relief of anxiety, pain management, reducing stress and other medical-related issues. As a meditator, with over 40 years of experience, I find that NeurOptimal® helps me access deep states of meditation and is also wonderful for emotional, physical and mental health.
As an MFT, I have worked with families for 35 years. Many of the children have special needs, such as children adopted from maltreatment histories, traumatic brain injuries, ADHD, mood disorders and other issues. Over and over again, I have seen that neurofeedback helps these kids and families.
In all these years, I have tried a number of neurofeedback systems. Craig Walker introduced me to NeurOptimal® and I find it to be superior to these other systems. It’s safe, comprehensive and adaptive approach to neurofeedback is simple for both the trainer and the client and I am seeing remarkable and sometimes amazing changes. It is an essential training for families with special needs. NeurOptimal® has a home/personal trainer that is every bit as simple and safe as the professional version. It is my hope that adoptive and special needs families will join together to buy and share systems so more people can benefit from this remarkable system. In time, I believe that NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback Systems will soon become a household item. It works and I am thrilled with this system. Note: NeurOptimal® is for brain training and optimization and is otherwise exempt from FDA regulation because it does not diagnose or treat medical conditions and is not considered a medical device.

Anxiety & Focus – One CrossFit Athlete’s Journey to the CrossFit Games
“I have been competing as a professional CrossFit athlete for 5 years and was a Division 1 Collegiate Rower. I have always struggled with anxiety which would hinder my social life, training, productivity and confidence. After learning about NeurOptimal, I was excited to try something that may help me become more focused in life and competition. Thus far, I have noticed increases in my productivity and focus. I have been more organized and still get my training done compared to the past when my anxiety would stop my training. During this recent stressful competition time, my anxiety has been up and down – understandably. I know that learning how to deal with anxiety is a process and cannot be fixed in one session. I am hoping to follow through with NeurOptimal training and have learned the importance of training the mind.”
Letter from Marco’s mom on the effect of NeurOptimal® on her son’s seizures
Marco developed seizures when he was 13 – he is now 25. They were bad. Not long after, I took him to do neurofeedback using a traditional system and qEEG. (Not NeurOptimal). For 15 months Marco did not have any seizures because the neurofeedback was keeping his delta waves down. However, he started developing side effects – tics, tardive dyskinesia, muscle spasms etc. so we stopped. I felt that there was a huge margin of human error involved with the determining of the protocol for the neurofeedback which is essentially unavoidable. This was a major factor in my decision to buy a NeurOptimal system, knowing that it is fully automated and does not require a human to make any decisions on behalf of the brain. I’m so glad I did! He’s been seizure free since the summer of 2014 and has been doing NeurOptimal since Oct. of 2015. We did an EEG this year and his EEG was clear of any seizure activity so his Neurologist has been reducing his seizure medication. I attribute this normal EEG to NeurOptimal. My son’s neurologist confirmed that a person may be asymptomatic of seizures (not be having seizures), but their EEG can still show seizure activity in the brain; so it was very amazing that my son did not show any seizure activity on his EEG considering his long history of intense and continuous seizure activity.
